The Call of Abram Genesis 11:27-12:9

Genesis 1-11 records mankind spiraling away from God into sin, ruin, and death.  Yet, God’s promise to heal the world (3:15) is renewed in His call to Abram.  Although he doesn’t know where God is leading him, he’s promised a home.  Although his aged wife is barren, he’s promised a child.  Although he’s surrounded by people hostile to him, he’s promised to be a blessing to the nations.

Abram is called away from the security of his family and homeland.  He’s called to an uncomfortable life living in tents among strangers.  He’s called to worship the LORD amidst a pagan and polytheistic culture.

When you are called to Christ by faith, the call upon your life is similar.  God calls you away from comfort and familiarity; he calls you to stretching circumstances and new relationships.  Instead of remaining in control of your life; God calls you to walk by faith.  Instead of drifting with the tide of culture, you’re called to live for Gods glory.
