Experiencing God through the Presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17)

This sermon will be the final installment of our series on our CPC’s vision and values. CPC’s mission statement highlights that we love and serve ‘by the power of the Spirit.’ The Holy Spirit, the third person of our Triune God, is sent by the Father and the Son. The Spirit convicts us of sin, shows us the beauty of Christ, and persuades and enables us to believe. The Spirit then begins the process of transforming us into the image of Christ; he changes what we want and how we act.

The scriptures exhort us to ‘be filled with the Spirit’ and to ‘keep in step with the Spirit.’ We’re warned that the Spirit can be grieved, quenched, and resisted. How is the Spirit presently at work in your life? Is the Spirit prompting you to grow in love towards someone? Is the Spirit urging you to turn from bitterness or self-pity?

Finally, it is the Spirit which assures our hearts that we are beloved children of God. The Spirit conveys to our hearts the weight and intensity of God’s love. Let us ask and seek a fresh filling of the Spirit (Luke 11:13).
